We have a very active Parents Association at Portadown Integrated Primary
School, which, over the years, has raised many thousands of pounds. The
money raised has enabled us to buy a range of resources which otherwise
may not be available for your children to use. Department of Education
funding is adequate for the provision of all essential equipment, but
the activities of the Parents' Association has allowed us to provide the
additional resources. Their recent contributions include such things as
additional reading schemes, CD players and a PA system. Many other items
have been provided along the way and all for the benefit of the children.
The Association also helps to enhance the sense of community enjoyed
by those associated with the School.
In addition the Parents' Association organises the sale of uniforms to
ensure that parents get the best deal possible.
The Parents' Association is always ready to welcome new members, so if
you are interested in playing an active role in the Association, please
do not hesitate to contact the Chairperson Mrs Noreen Cummie.

WELCOME
Welcome to the first Newsletter of 2009! We are looking forward to some
fantastic events this year, so put the dates in your diaries now! As ever,
the success of our fundraising events depends on the hard work of everyone
so if you can spare some time to help out that would be great.
AGM
We started the year with the Annual General Meeting at which the Officers
of the PA were elected. This year’s post holders are: Michael Guilfoyle
(Chair); John Wilson (Vice-Chair); Michael Gray (Treasurer) and Tina Dugan
(Secretary), the other committee members are Clare Cuthbert, Gillian McConville,
Olivia Delaney, Caroline Taylor and Eileen Leathem. We would like to invite
all parents to put forward any ideas you may have for fundraising events,
all suggestions are very welcome. We appreciate people may not have the
time to dedicate to the PA but we require volunteers for all events that
we hold so if you can spare any time we would love to have you on board.
FUND RAISING EVENTS
During the past year we held a number of fund raising & social
events which have been widely supported by parents, children and staff.
We hope that the forthcoming events will be even more enjoyable and as
well attended as in previous years. Last year we were able to raise over
£2000 and this money will go towards the purchase of new playground
equipment to benefit P1 to P3. Also on Quiz night we were able to raise
over £1400 and half of that went to the children’s chosen
charity which was Children With Leukaemia.
DISCO
The disco in the rugby club on 27th October was a great success.
Thank you to everyone who braved the awful weather to support it. The
children really enjoyed themselves and according to our DJ, Sean McAteer
they have some great taste in music. £220 was raised on the night.
Special thanks go to Portadown rugby Club for all their help in organizing
the disco.
SPONSORED RUN
On Friday 16th October the children completed a sponsored run.
The PA provided juice and a snack for the childrena and also some refreshments
for the parents.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Mr. Magee who successfully completed the Dublin marathon
on the 26th October. We hope he gets the feeling back in his legs some
time soon!
PIPS IS 20
This year our school is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary. The Parents
association are going to be help mark this occasion by organising a playground
party in May 2010. We plan on having cakes, buns, sweets and entertainment
will be provided so make a note now not to be missed!
AND FINALLY
There are lots of exciting events and times ahead and we hope to have
your continued support in the 2009/2010 academic year and look forward
to seeing you at the forthcoming events.

Welcome
Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the ‘Observer’.
Support Needed
With the enthusiastic assistance of parents, children and teachers PIPS
Parents’ Association intends to present a variety of events over
the next few months.
As ever we will approach you personally, via the telephone and through
notices to ask for your help and support. Please remember however, that
the monthly meetings take place (as far as possible) on the first Wednesday
night of each month and you are invited to come along. Next Meeting will
be on Wednesday 7 March at 7.30pm in the school. The more people we have
offering ideas and advice, the more organised we can be!

- manning various stalls
And a Big Big ‘Thank You’ to Santa Clause who paid 2 visits
to PIPS in December!

We are already planning our main fundraiser for Christmas 2007 –
can you believe it? We will require each family to provide a favourite
recipe and we intend putting them altogether into a PIPS Recipe Book.
You will find out more shortly – but start gathering up your best
recipes!

The Parents’ Association would like to congratulate the P7 team
